Protein Packed Peanut Butter and Banana Hemp Heart Maple Oatmeal

oats

That’s a mouthful.

I love eating breakfast. I love eating this breakfast in particular. There used to be a time in my life where I would skip breakfast everyday. I would grab an apple and a piece of bread and walk out the door. That might not sound so bad, right? If you thought an apple and whole grain bread for breakfast was healthy you’d be right , however, that was what I would eat for the entire day.

I would leave to school at 8:00 a.m. and return home after work at 10:00 p.m. having only eaten that apple and bread. I was completely obsessed with weighing a certain weight. I would be happy when I was that weight, finally. It’s funny now when I think back at how happiness was always just around the corner, ‘I’ll be happy when……’

I reached that goal weight and still wasn’t happy. How could I possibly be happy when I was only eating an apple and bread? Duh! I’m sure you can imagine I couldn’t maintain that weight for long. After a few months I gained all the weight I had lost back and then some. In fact, I became the heaviest I had ever been after that.

I waisted five, maybe six years of my life doing this. Not at this extreme level, but restricting calories non the less. My husband would always tell me that I could eat whatever I wanted and still maintain the low weight I was after. What he was saying couldn’t really resonate with me. I had stayed small for fifteen years eating less than I should have, and old habits really die-hard.

It’s been four months since I’ve really changed my eating. I probably eat 5 meals a day with multiple snacks in between. The part that really puts a smile on my face? I weigh what I did when I wasn’t eating. I feel great. I’m not a cranky bitch all the time from being hungry. I look forward to eating when I used to dread it, and I don’t have my husband harping on my eating habits. Win, Win, Win.

I wouldn’t skip breakfast now for anything in the world. It doesn’t matter if I’m running late. I eat this Oatmeal Peanut Butter Banana breakfast everyday. I even look forward to it. It warms me up and keeps me full. It fuels me through a two-hour workout. It reminds me that I love myself now. Something I would never say before. Can your breakfast do that?

  1. Thank you very much for the recipe! Delicious oatmeal! It wasn’t so simple for me to do it, because you can’t buy hemp hearts in my country. It is even hard to buy peanut butter and maple syrup! Luckily we’ve got plenty of oatmeal :D So it took me for a while, but it was worth it.

And I’ve just read that eating oatmeals every day can lead to the lack of calcium and you eat it everyday – so be careful please!

I’ll definitely try something else – you blog is mouthwatering! :)
